Manufacturer Spotlight – GAF
March 1, 2018
GAF, North America’s Largest Roofing Manufacturer
GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer and we are proud to have their Commercial Roofing ISO and TPO operations here in Gainesville.
GAF came to Gainesville in 2006 as part of an initiative within GAF to grow their business and market share in commercial roofing for flat roof, big box warehouses. Already known as North America’s largest residential roofing manufacturer at the time, they have been breaking records in commercial roofing ever since. In 2013 GAF made an additional commitment in Gainesville by bringing their ISO operations here, one of their only sites nationwide that produces TPO membrane and ISO insulation board products in the same location.
The expansion in 2013 doubled their footprint in Gainesville, expanding their plant 200,000 sq. ft. In 2006 GAF in Gainesville ran one shift. Today they run their TPO operations 24 hours a day / 7 days per week and the ISO operation is going to 24 hours per day / 5 days per week, adding many good paying jobs. The Gainesville community plays an important part of the GAF success story. Our location on the I-35 NAFTA corridor is centrally located and helps to save the company shipping and handling costs thus keeping their product price competitive. GAF has continued to praise the caliber of the people here as hardworking and trustworthy, contributing to the ability to produce high quality product and meet goals. GAF is confident in the Gainesville team’s ability to continue to contribute at a high level.
GAF relocated managers from other plants in the US to help form the leadership team in Gainesville. They came from Indiana, New Jersey and beyond, a little uncertain about what working and living in North Texas would be like. In speaking with them today, each of them cites how happy they are here and how they can’t imagine ever going back. “The people are so nice,” says Carolina Capo, HR Manager. “We enjoy working together and have a great team.”
GAF’s operation is high tech. Students who toured GAF on Manufacturing Day this past October witnessed this first hand as they wore their headsets as leaders told the GAF story. “GAF looks to develop entry level positions to the next level,” said Breck Hudson, General Manager, speaking of the many job opportunities for students interested in a career in manufacturing. “Our success in growing the company to nearly $3 billion in sales has been the result of our relentless pursuit of quality, combined with industry leading expertise and comprehensive roofing solutions.”
Founded in 1886, GAF has become North America’s largest manufacturer of commercial and residential roofing.
